Ferrari after many years of waiting and meticulous designing has begun the production of first fully electric vehicle. It is named Luce which means “light” in Italian and this revolutionary model is a radical change for the legendary Italian brand. In the end of May 2026, the Ferrari did not simply unveil a new car, but also a new identity. It was a sign to the world that the company was ready to go with the future while still keeping its character and Ferrari spirit.
Many lovers of Ferrari consider a completely electric Ferrari to be the death of the brand. The company had established the fame and the legend with the roaring of V12 and V8 engines producing exciting and emotional sounds. Though, the company kept on with the changing of the times and got new design and performance aspects in the face of governmental tightening of emission limits and requirement changes in who the company’s customers are, for example in China and California. Besides other things, the Luce brings the user with immediate power and an exhilarating driving experience. In addition, it is also capable of being used daily with ease and gives the owner some unexpectedly good levels of comfort.
The car is built on power and technology. The four electric motors one located at each wheel generate a combined power of 1050 horsepower when fully boosted. The car can go from 0 to 62 mph in only 2.5 seconds, and its maximum speed is approximately 193 mph. The extensive 122 kWh battery is reported to provide a range of up to 330 miles, which is a great relief to the luxury EV market. The vehicle is manufactured on an 800-volt system allowing ultra-fast charging, with a maximum power of 500 kW, so the driver can charge enough for a substantial range in just a few minutes.
The aspects that make the Luce so special are its design and functionality. This is Ferrari’s first production five-seater car and it has four doors as well as a larger cabin. The exterior is attractive, a result of a collaboration with the former Apple design chief Sir Jony Ive and his LoveFrom studio. There are no more aggressive shapes and lines, rather there are clean and simple lines as well as surfaces and the car is very aerodynamic. Some would even say that the car is a “fight” between two Ferrari fans such that one person likes one Ferrari and the other one likes the other and so on. So in other words, some would call it understated and controversial while others would say that it is a futuristic and elegant. Inside there is a change of the focus to the comfort of a driver. The materials are of high quality and the controls are few and simple to use. It is the driving but not the flashy displays that are given the priority in this car.
Although the Luce weighs about 2,260 kg and is not a lightweight at all, advanced engineering helps to keep it flexible and nimble. Ferrari engineers have designed a special package of noise, vibration, and harshness work that allows the delivery of refinement without losing the brand’s legendary handling. Owners may select different driving modes, from an efficient Range mode to Launch Control that releases all the powers of the motors.
Starting at roughly 550,000 (around $640,000), the Luce sits quite comfortably in the ultra-luxury segment. Production is scheduled to start in the last quarter of 2026. Even though it is very expensive, initial feedback shows that collectors and tech-savvy buyers who want Ferrari exclusivity combined with modern electric advantages are very interested.
Though, the launch was accompanied by some controversies. Ferrari’s stock price fell slightly after the unveiling since some investors feared that the brand’s emotional appeal might be watered down. Engine enthusiasts are saddened by the lack of sound, while fans running ahead with enthusiastic ideas applaud the immediate torque and less cost of operation. Still, Ferrari argues that the Luce is consistent with their handwriting it is a car for people who want to be thrilled behind the wheel.
For most people, the Luce is marked as a sign of the coming change. It marries Ferrari’s engineering prowess with attainable luxury and hints at the future when famous brands will have to change to an electric world. Regardless of whether you consider it a giant leap ahead or a compromise made under pressure, the one thing that cannot be denied is that the Prancing Horse has stepped into the electric world with assurance and flair. In a world where roads will be gradually filled with more and more sustainable vehicles, the Luce showcases that even in a battery-powered future, performance and emotion can still exist.
